Bahadur Deuba elected Nepal’s Prime Minister for the fourth time
- Nepalese politician Sher Bahadur
Deuba elected as Nepal’s Prime Minister for the fourth time.
- The post of Prime Minister fell
vacant after Maoist leader Prachanda resigned in May under a power-sharing
deal with the Nepali Congress leader.
- Mr. Deuba served as the prime
minister from 1995 to 1997, from 2001 to 2002, and from 2004 to 2005.
Hoshiar Singh appointed as Chief of Copyrights
Office
- Hoshiar Singh a 1994 batch
officer of the Indian Telecom Service appointed as Registrar of
Copyrights.
- His period of five years as per
the recent order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training
(DoPT).
- The Copyright Office is under
the immediate control of a Registrar of Copyrights, who acts under the
superintendence and directions of the Central Government.

Neelakantan, Satpathy to be honoured with Kalinga Awards
- Popular writer Anand
Neelakantan, Odia poet Haraprasad Das and author Paramita Satpathy were
announced winners of the Kalinga Literary Awards.
- The Kalinga International
Literary Award, Kalinga Literary Youth Award and Kalinga Karubaki Award
will be conferred upon Neelakantan, Das and Satpathy respectively.

RBI keeps Repo Rate unchanged in Second Bi-monthly
Monetary Policy Statement, 2017-18
On the basis of an assessment of the
current and evolving macroeconomic situation at its meeting today, the Monetary
Policy Committee (MPC) decided to:
- Keep the policy repo rate under
the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) unchanged at 6.25 per cent.
- Consequently, the reverse repo
rate under the LAF remains at 6.0 per cent, and
- The Marginal Standing Facility
(MSF) rate and the Bank Rate at 6.50 per cent.

India Signs
Loan Agreement with the World Bank for the project “Assam Citizen Centric
Service Delivery”
- India signed a loan agreement of
USD 39.2 million with the World Bank for the Assam Citizen Centric Service
Delivery Project.
- The total Project worth is USD
49 million where 39.2 will be financed by the World Bank and the remainder
will be funded out of Assam State Budget.
- The loan will be provided by the
International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).
NHB approves merger between Aadhaar Housing
Finance and DHFL Vysya Housing Finance
- The proposed merger between
Aadhar Housing Financeand Dewan
Housing Finance Limited (DHFL) got the approval from housing finance
regulator National Housing Bank (NHB).
- Both the companies are owned by
Wadhawan family promoted Wadhawan Global Capital Pvt Limited.
- According to the merger plan,
Aadhar Housing will merge into DHFL Vysya, making it a Pan-India company.

Nepal,
China signed mega hydropower Agreement
- Nepal and China signed an
agreement to develop a 1,200-megawatt hydropower project, the country’s
largest to be built in central Nepal.
- It is the largest Hydroelectric plant
in Nepal.
- It is being developed by China's
Gezhouba Group Corporation and will cost around $ 2.5 million.
- This is the 2nd major hydro
investment after China secured a deal early to develop a 750 Mega Watt
project.
Montenegro Becomes NATO’s 29th member
- Montenegro officially joined
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and thereby became the 29 member
country.
- Montenegro Foreign Minister
Srdjan Darmanovic submitted the official accession papers in a ceremony at
the US State Department.
India signs agreement with Sri Lanka for
developing Railway sector
- India signed an agreement to
provide assistance of 318 million US Dollar credit line to Sri Lanka for
the development of the railway sector in the country.
- India already provided four
Lines of Credit for the development of railway sector in Sri Lanka through
its EXIM Bank amounting to approximately USD 966 million.
- Presently Indian development
assistance mainly focuses on improvement of infrastructure, livelihood
development, education, healthcare, and capacity building.

Sachin
Tendulkar joins UN campaign ‘Super Dads’
- Cricketing legend Sachin
Tendulkar will be joining the likes of Noval Djokovic and David Beckham
for a United Nations campaign/initiative titled Super Dads.
- The UNICEF initiative Super Dad
highlights the critical role played by fathers in children’s early
development. The initiative that was launched on 6 June 2017, few days
ahead of the Father’s Day (18 June), will celebrate fatherhood by
highlighting the importance of love, play, protection and good nutrition
for the healthy development of young children’s brains.
- Other participants of the Super
Dads campaign include Mahershala Ali, the All Blacks, Daniel Cormier,
Lewis Hamilton, Hugh Jackman, ThalĂa and Chris Weidman.
Kerala Government implements Green Protocol for
making Weddings more Nature Friendly
- Kerala State Government
implemented with a Green protocolto make the weddings in the state more
nature-friendly.
- With the implementation of the
protocol, plastic and other non-degradable articles including disposable
glasses and plates and Thermo cool decorations will be kept at bay from
marriage functions.
- In Ernakulam, the district
administration is issuing green marriage certificate for those weddings
which abide by the protocol completely.
Narendra Modi government to scrap UGC, AICTE soon
with HEERA
- The University Grants Commission
(UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) the Prime
Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre is planning to replace
the two education regulators with a new Higher Education Regulator.
- Higher Education Empowerment
Regulation Agency(HEERA) is the name of the newly proposed regulator. This
new body will be implemented with the aim of eliminating the overlaps in
the jurisdiction and also to remove the irrelevant regulatory provisions.
- The Human Resource and
Development Ministry (HRD) is working with the Niti Aayog towards the
implementation of this new proposed regulatory body. They are working to
bring the technical as well as the non-technical institutions under the
same umbrella.

launches ‘Skill for Life, Save a Life’ initiative
- Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister
for Health and Family Welfare launched the ‘Skill for Life, Save a Life’
initiative at a function.
- Speaking on the occasion Shri
Nadda said that India enjoys a demographic dividend as more than 65% youth
are below the age of 35 years and the Government is determined to seize
this opportunity by providing adequate skills and employability to the
youth for a strong foundation for continued and sustainable growth.
- ‘Skills for Life, Save a Life’
Initiative’ aims to upscale the quantity and quality of trained
professionals in the healthcare system.
- Under this initiative various
courses are planned to be initiated targeting specific competencies for
healthcare professionals as well as for general public.

World’s
First Hybrid ‘Aeroboat’ announced publicly
- The world’s first hybrid
‘aeroboat’ built by an Indo-Russian joint venture announced publicly
start-ups event organized by Russia’s state-run Skolkovo Foundation.
- The Aeroboat is capable of
traveling on land, water, snow, and sand.
- The Aeroboat has been designed
by International Institute For Advanced Aerospace Technologies (IIAAT).

wins ITF Futures Title in Singapore
- Indian Tennis player Ramkumar
Ramanathan won The International Tennis Federation (ITF) men's Future's
Tennis title.
- He defeated Raymond Sarmiento of
United States of America (USA).
- He was rewarded with cash Prize
of $ 15,000 and it was the first title of the season for Ramkumar and 15th
of his career.
