Shashi Shekhar Vempati appointed as CEO of Prasar Bharati
  • Shashi Shekar Vempati appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prasar Bharati.
  • Shashi Shekar Vempati holds the post for a period of five years.
  • Vempati is currently serving as a Member (part time) of the Prasar Bharati Board.
Ganeshan Neelakanta Iyer First Indian to be nominated as a member of the Umpires and Referees Committee (URC)
  • Ganeshan Neelakanta Iyer, the only assigned competition manager of International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), has become the first Indian to be nominated as a member of the Umpires and Referees Committee (URC).
  • Ganeshan is also the chairman of the South Asian Federation technical committee and a member of the Technical Committee of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation.
  • His term as URC member is for a period of two years and can also be extended.

APQN Quality Award to NAAC for International Co-operation in Quality Assurance
  • National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India has received prestigious International Award of Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN) titled “APQN Quality Award 2017 for International Co-operation in Quality Assurance.”
  • In a special Award ceremony held in Moscow, Russia, Dr. Jagannath Patil, Adviser, NAAC received the award on behalf of Prof. D.P. Singh, Director, NAAC.
  • APQN Quality Award are among the most prestigious International Awards in quality assurance of higher education.
BEML bags Raksha Mantri’s award
  • Defence public sector BEML Ltd has bagged the Raksha Mantri’s Award for Excellence for design and development of 180-tonne electric hydraulic excavator BE1800E.
  • Deepak Kumar Hota, CMD, BEML received the award from Defence Minister Arun Jaitley while Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre presented the certificate of excellence to BR Viswanatha, Director-Mining & Construction, BEML.

RBI admits prompt corrective action against Dena Bank
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has initiated prompt corrective action (PCA) for Dena Bank in view of high net non-performing assets and negative return on assets.
  • In the month of May, RBI had initiated PCA for IDBI Bank and UCO Bank in view of negative assets.
  • Prompt Corrective Action is the action which will not have any material impact on the performance of the bank to improve its activities.

Samsung Signs MoU with Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) to Set Up 2 more Tech Schools
  • Samsung India signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) for setting up two new Samsung Technical Schools in Bengaluru and Jamshedpur.
  • As a part of Samsung’s commitment to Government’s Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana campaign, the company announced the MSME-Samsung Technical School Scholarship program for girls and differently-abled trainees.
  • Samsung already runs 10 schools in the Sates of Rajasthan, Kerala, Bihar, Delhi and West Bengal.
SBI clears 100 Mw solar projects worth Rs 400 crores under World Bank programme
  • State Bank of India and the World Bank announced that they had financed 100 MW of rooftop solar projects worth Rs400 crore in India.
  • SBI got a loan of $625 million from the World Bank via Grid-Connected Rooftop Solar PV (GRPV) projects undertaken by developers, aggregators, end-users, for installation of rooftop solar systems.
  • With this program, SBI will support the installation of more than 600 MW of rooftop solar capacity.
SEBI, BSE, NSE approved for Airtel-Telenor merger
  • New Delhi-based telecommunications services company Bharti Airtel received the merger approval between Airtel andTelenor Communications.from Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE).
  • The merger is subject to other statutory approvals including from the competition commission of India (CCI).
  • Airtel will acquire Telenor India's running operations in seven circles - Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West) and Assam.
  • After merging, Airtel will get 52.5 million users from Telenor kitty.

Leo Varadkar to be next Ireland Prime Minister
  • Leo Varadkar is set to become the Republic of Ireland's next Prime Minister after winning the leadership of the Fine Gael party.
  • He will succeed Enda Kenny.
  • The 38-year-old Leo will become the first gay Prime Minister.

Three Day MODI Fest to be held in Andhra Pradesh
  • Making of Developed India (MODI), a three-day festival has been launched in Andhra Pradesh.
  • It is being celebrated to mark the successful completion of three-year rule by the Central Government.
  • It will have Jan Ki Baat voice of the people stall and a survey on Namo App, with an exhaustive list of questions.
Haryana Cabinet approves extension of Metro rail from Delhi to Sonepat
  • The Haryana Cabinet has approved the extension of Metro rail from Narela (Delhi) to Kundli (Sonepat District).
  • Now 50% of funds for Delhi Metro Railways Corporation (DMRC) projects will be contributed by the Haryana Infrastructure Development Board (20%), State Government (18%) and the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (12%).
  • The Narela to Kundli extension (4.86 km long) will have three stations namely Narela Sector 5, Kundli and Nathupur.
Ralang Road Film will represent India at 52nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival
  • The 52nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will be held at Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic in the month of July.
  • Ralang Road directed by Karma Takapa will represent India at the festival.
  • It has been nominated for the Crystal Globe Award along with 11 other films from around the world.
Telangana CM announces 6 point comprehensive plan for farmers
  • During the occasion of State Formation Day, Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao announced a 6 point comprehensive plan for farmers in Secunderabad.
  • The plans include the following points:
    • 1.8 thousand rupees cash assistance per acre per annum to each farmer in the state.
    • 24/7 continuous electricity supply.
    • Formation of crop colonies and support price for their yield.
    • He also announced other welfares such as thousand rupees social security pension for single destitute women.
    • The Chief Minister additionally reported Rs 15,000 help to mother and child which incorporates 'KCR Kits'worth Rs 2,000 to take care of their nutrition and health needs.
Punjab, United Kingdom join hands to promote Skill Development
  • The Punjab Government and the United Kingdom decided to join hands for imparting skill training and technical education to the youths of the state in order to provide them better employment opportunities abroad.
  • The signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Punjab and United Kingdom on June 20 would be the first step in this direction.
  •  As per the MoU, the students who study degree courses would be provided a dual certificate which would have International recognition.
Varanasi to get India’s 1st freight village
  • Varanasi will get the country's first 'freight village' spread over around 100 acres.
  • The plan to set up this project close to the upcoming multi-mode terminal along the Ganga has attracted major players including Dubai Port World and IL&FS.
  • A 'Freight Village' is a specialised industrial estate which attracts companies that require logistics services and can cluster to improve their competitiveness.

NASA's first mission to the star set for 2018
  • Wearing a nearly 5-inch coat of carbon-composite solar shields, NASA's Parker Solar Probe will explore the sun's atmosphere in a mission that begins in the summer of 2018.
  • NASA is sending a roughly 10-foot-high ‘Parker’ probe on the historic mission that will put it closer to the sun than any spacecraft has ever reached before.
  • The specially designed mission will also address questions that couldn't be answered before.
