SEBI
clears Vikram Limaye as NSE chief
- Capital market regulator SEBI
has given conditional approval for the appointment of Vikram Limaye as the
MD and CEO of the NSE.
- SEBI had delayed clearing his
appointment as he was also part of the four-member Supreme Court-appointed
panel managing the affairs of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
His term with the BCCI ends in August 2017.

Canara bank
partners with New India Assurance
- Canara Bank has inked pact with
the state-owned general insurer The New India Assurance Co to sell
policies through its branches.
- The tie-up will offer personal
products such as motor insurance, home insurance, health insurance, travel
insurance besides commercial policy coverages like fire insurance, marine
insurance and engineering insurance.
SBI reduces interest rate on home loan of above
Rs. 75 lakh by 10 bps to 8.6%
- State Bank of India has cut the
interest rate on home loans above Rs. 75 lakh by 10 basis points (bps) to
8.55%-8.6%, with effect from June 15.
- The revised interest rates will
be 8.55% pa (per annum) for salaried women borrowers.
- For others, the rate of interest
will be 8.60% pa.
Indian Overseas Bank launches retail mart in
Thiruvananthapuram
- Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), the
Lead Bank for Thiruvananthapuram district, has launched the Retail Mart, a
retail lending concept, in Kerala's capital city.
- The Retail Mart has been
designed with an aim to complete all the pre-release formalities at the
customer’s doorstep and sanction quality retail loans at a competitive
rate of interest with a minimum turnaround time.

Wipro
declares Donald Trump as a potential 'threat to business' for Indian IT
industry
- Information Technology giant
Wipro has become the first Indian business house to declare the President
of the United State, Donald Trump as a potential 'threat to business', in
its annual filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
- Reason:- Trump’s protectionist
policies including his decision to withdraw from multi-lateral trade deals
like the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement have been of great concern
for IT services firms like Wipro, Infosys, L&T, Cognizant etc.
- Trump had brought in curbs to
the H1-B professional visa, that is widely used by the Indian IT industry.
TCS launches BaNCS app development kit to help
banks creating their own apps
- Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)
has announced the launch of the BaNCS app development kit that will help
financial institutions develop their own apps and deploy it across
devices.

Rajya Sabha
member Palvai Govardhan Reddy passes away
- Veteran Cong (I) leader and
Rajya Sabha member from Telangana, Palvai Govardhan Reddy, died of cardiac
arrest in Kulu, Himachal Pradesh.
- Palvai was first elected to the
Legislative Assembly in 1967 from Munugodu constitutency in Nalgonda
district in the United Andhra Pradesh.
- He went on to represent it five
times, then served two terms as a Council member. He became a member of
the Upper House of Parliament in April 2012.

China
condemns Europeon Union for new steel anti-dumping duties
- China has condemned the European
Commission for imposing new anti-dumping duties on its steel products.
- EU (Europeon Union) would levy
duties of up to 35.9 percent on Chinese hot-rolled flat steel.
India,
Pakistan become full members of SCO
- Capping a two-year-long process,
India and Pakistan have became full members of the Shanghai Cooperation
Organisation (SCO), a China-dominated security grouping that is
increasingly seen as a counterweight to NATO.
- India’s membership was strongly
pushed by Russia while Pakistan’s entry into the grouping was backed by
China.
- With the expansion of the
grouping, the SCO will now represent over 40 per cent of humanity and
nearly 20 per cent of the global GDP.
- The SCO was founded at a Summit
in Shanghai in 2001 by the Presidents of Russia, China, Kyrgyz Republic,
Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
- India, Iran and Pakistan were
admitted as observers at the 2005 Astana Summit.

- NITI Aayog has launched SATH, a
program providing ‘Sustainable Action for Transforming Human capital’ with
the State Governments.
- Vision of SATH Program:- To
initiate transformation in the education and health sectors.
- This program will be implemented
by NITI along with McKinsey & Company and IPE Global consortium in
three selected states after the signing of MoUs.
President Pranab Mukherjee launches 'Selfie with
Daughter' mobile app
- President Pranab Mukherjee
launched the 'Selfie with Daughter' mobile application.
- Aim:- To Raise awareness about
female foeticide and sex selection.
- The campaign was started by
Sunil Jaglan in June 2015 in village Bibipur in Haryana's Jind district.

Conference held
- Minister of Railways Shri Suresh
Prabhakar Prabhu inaugurated Indian Railways' 1st HR Round Table
Conference.
- Aim of the Conference:- Improving
the productivity of the human resources through inter-change of ideas with
various stakeholders and HR practitioners and academics.

India grants road contract to complete Kaladan
project in Myanmar
- Kaladan was the first major
project taken up by India in Myanmar. $484-million Kaladan multi-modal
transport projects will offer connectivity to Mizoram in India.
- Rs. 1,600-crore contract has
been awarded for building 109-km road connecting Paletwa river terminal to
Zorinpui in Mizoram border, under this project.
22nd European Union Film Festival (EUFF) kicked
off in New Delhi
- The 22nd European Union Film
Festival (EUFF) kicked off in New Delhi which will screen 22 films from 22
European countries at Siri Fort Auditorium.
- Aim:- To improve cultural ties
between India and European countries.

festival opened with Estonian film 'Cherry Tobacco'
GST Council constitutes 18 Sectoral Groups for
smooth roll-out of GST
- As decided in the 14th Meeting
of the GST Council held on 18th-19th May, 2017 in Srinagar, J&K, 18
Sectoral Groups have been constituted representing various sectors of the
economy in order to ensure smooth roll-out of GST.
- These 18 Sectoral Groups
representing various sectors of the economy and containing Senior Officers
of the Centre and the States are being set-up to ensure smooth
implementation of GST by timely responding to the issues and problems of
their respective Sector(s).
- In fact, they are being with the
following objectives:
- Interact and examine
representations received from trade and industry associations/bodies of
their respective sector.
- Highlight specific issues for
the smooth transition of the respective sector to the GST regime.
- Prepare sector specific draft
guidance.

Olympic Committee approves 15 new events for 2020 Tokyo Games
- The International Olympic
Committee’s (IOC) Executive Board added 15 new events for the 2020
Olympics to be held in Tokyo.
- Tokyo Games would include 321
events, up from 306 at Rio 2016.

Jeje Lalpekhlua received the All India Football Federation's (AIFF)
inaugural player of the year 2016 award.
