1. Turkey hosts Critical Summit on Syria War with Russia and Iran
The presidents of Iran, Turkey, and Russia met for their second tripartite summit in under six months, aiming to speed the peace process for Syria and bolster their influence in the country. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted his Russian and Iranian counterparts Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani in Ankara for a meeting that could have a critical bearing on developments in Syria. The meeting will be the second such tripartite summit after the first was hosted by Putin in November in the Black Sea city of Sochi.

2. 7 April: World Health Day
The World Health Day is a global health awareness day organized globally on 7th April. With an aim to spread awareness about health and well being, the first-ever World Health Day was observed in 1948 by the WHO. The theme of World Health Day is: Universal health coverage: everyone, everywhere. The slogan is “Health for All”.

3. Panel set up to examine tax evasion risks posed by super rich
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has set up an internal working group to examine the taxation aspects of high net worth individuals (HNWIs). The group has been set up to ensure that individuals who pose a substantial tax risk pay their dues.

4. Qatar to allow women to volunteer for national service
Qatar would be introducing national service for women for the first time with immediate effect, under a new law issued by the Gulf nation’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Women aged over 18 will now be able to volunteer for national service under the law, men will have to serve for a year instead of three months.

5. RBI bars banks from crypto services
RBI directed all regulated entities including banks not to provide services to businesses dealing in virtual currencies like bitcoins, so as to protect consumers and check money laundering. The RBI asked entities, which are already into such services to stop providing this kind of services within three months. The RBI has directed all payment system operators to store all data within India.

6. FIEO and PayPal signed MoU
Digital payments company PayPal and the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) signed an agreement for the promotion of outbound shipments among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) leveraging the partners' expertise and technology products. As part of the agreement, PayPal will work with FIEO to educate SMEs on how to leverage global opportunities help them receive money in a safe and timely manner with PayPal products. FIEO contributes to more than 70% of India's exports.

7. Uttarakhand second Mega Food Park inaugurated at Udham Singh Nagar
Uttarakhand’s second Mega Food Park- Himalayan Mega Food Park Private Ltd inaugurated at Mahuakhera Ganj in Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district. It was inaugurated by Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. The first Mega Food Park in the state is located at Haridwar. The mega food park was set up in the area of 50.14 acres at a cost of Rs 99.96 crore. It has central processing center (CPC).
8. Indian women hockey team won aganist Malaysia in Gold Coast Commonwealth Games
The Indian women's hockey team registered a comprehensive victory over Malaysia by 4-1 in their second match of Pool A. This was the first win of the Indian team at the Gold Coast 2018 XXI Commonwealth Games campaign.

9. Weighlifter Sathish Sivalingam bring India's third gold medal
Wighlifter  Sathish Sivalingam won a gold medal in the 77 kg category. Its a third gold medal for India so far after Mirabai Chanu and Sanjita Chanu in the opening two days in the weighlifting category. After three attempts, he managed to lift a total of 144 kg in the snatch and 179 kg in the clean and jerk in second attempt. He defeated his contender, Jack Oliver of England by 5 kg and secured the CWG title he won four years back in Glasgow. 

10. RBI Revises Limits For Investment In Debt Instruments By FPI
The Reserve Bank of India has revised the limits on investment in debt instruments by foreign portfolio investors (FPI). The revision comes into effect immediately. And, the revision is done in consultation with the Government of India.
a) The limit for FPI investment in Central Government securities (G-secs) is 5.5% for 2018-2019
b) The limit for FPI investment in state development loans (SDLs) is 2%
c) The overall limit for FPI investment in corporate bonds is 9%
d) The allocation of increase in G-sec limit over the two sub-categories – ‘general’ and ‘long-term’ – 50:50.
 
11. NCBS Team Wins Award From American Society Of Naturalists
A team of evolutionary biologists from city-based National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) have been awarded the 2018 Presidential Award from the American Society of Naturalists (ASN). This is the first time researchers in Asia have been presented with the award. ASN was founded in 1883 to study evolution, ecology and animal behaviour, the presidential award was started in 1984.

12. Centre, Maharashtra Govt & World Bank sign USD 420 million project
The union govt. & Maharashtra Govt. and the World Bank have signed a USD 420 million project to help small and marginals farmers in the Marathwada and Vidarbha region of the state. The project will help in increasing climate resilient practices in agriculture and ensuring that farming continues to remain a financially viable activity for them. The project will take up a series of activities at the farm and watershed level.

13. Khadi Store Locator App launched
The Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Giriraj Singh has launched a mobile application for locating 4000 Khadi stores in India. This was informed by Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman KVIC in the the 9th National Board of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) held in New Delhi. There are more than 8000 khadi stores in India. The location of rest of the stores will also be available on this app by the end of April.

14. 1st Van Dhan Vikas Kendra launched by Ministry of Tribal Affairs
Union Ministry of Tribal affairs has launched “Van Dhan Vikas Kendra” in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. It has been established for providing skill improvement and capacity building training and value addition facility. This Kendra will have processing facility for making of Tamarind brick, storage facility of Mahua flower and cleaning and packaging of Chironji (Buchanania lanzan).
15. ICICI Bank 1st to get Swift’s new cross-border payment service:
Global financial messaging cooperative, SWIFT (Society for World Interbank Financial Telecommunication System platform) announced that ICICI Bank has become its first Indian client to go live with an improved cross-border payments service. SWIFT’s GPI tracker enables real-time payments tracking across correspondent banks and has a facility to track the payments instructions across the correspondent banks globally.

16. CBDT forms Working Group to assess tax risks of HNWIs migrating abroad
Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has constituted a five-member working group to examine the taxation aspects related to High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) who are migrating abroad to other jurisdictions. This Working Group will be headed by Pragya Sahay Saksena, a joint secretary with Foreign Tax & Tax Research Division of CBDT.

17. Mithali Raj Becomes Most Capped Player In Women’s ODIs
Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj has become the most capped player in women’s ODI cricket after turning out for the 192nd time against England. Raj, who is also the highest run-getter in WODIs, overtook former England captain Charlotte Edwards, who had appeared in 191 WODIs. Indian fast bowler Jhulan Goswami is the third-most capped WODI player.

Answer: Deepak Lather
Explanation: Teenager Deepak Lather from Haryana has become the youngest Indian weightlifter to claim a Commonwealth Games medal by clinching a bronze in the men’s 69kg weightlifting category at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG-2018) in Gold Coast, Australia on April 6. He lifted a total of 295kg (136kg+159kg). The youngster, competing in his first Commonwealth Games, holds the distinction of being the youngest to hold the national record as well.

1. Julius Maada Bio wins Presidential election of Sierra Leone
Julius Maada Bio has been elected as the new president of Sierra Leone. He beat incumbent Samura Kamara, who secured 48.19% of the vote. Sierra Leone is a country in West Africa, on the Atlantic Ocean.

2. Sahyog- Hyeoblyeog 2018: Indian, Korean Coast Guards hold Joint Exercise
Indo-Korean joint anti-piracy, search and rescue exercise ‘Sahyog- Hyeoblyeog 2018’ was conducted off the Chennai coast, in Tamil Nadu. The Korean Coast Guard ship ‘Bodaro’ took part in the exercise.

3. Government constitutes committee to regulate news portals
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has constituted 10-member committee to regulate online portals, including news websites, entertainment sites and media aggregators.

4. SBI Life appoints Sanjeev Nautiyal as New MD & CEO
SBI Life Insurance appointed Sanjeev Nautiyal as its new Managing Director and CEO. He replaces Arijit Basu, who takes over a key role in the State Bank of India Group.



5. India win South East Asian Women Handball C’ship
India defeated Bangladesh by 27-10 in a one-sided match to win the fifth South East Asian Women Handball Championship at K.D. Singh Babu Stadium in Lucknow.

6. RBI constitutes inter-departmental group to study launching of fiat digital currency
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has constituted an inter-departmental group to study and provide guidance on feasibility to introduce fiat digital currency backed by it. It will be submitted by end-June 2018. Fiat currency is currency that a government has declared to be legal tender.

7. CBDT Forms Working Group to Assess Tax Risks of Migrating HNIs
A five-member committee has been formed by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to look into the tax implications of the migrating high net worth individuals (HNIs). The group formed on the recommendations of CBDT Chairman Sushil Chandra constitutes Pragya Saxena, joint secretary, foreign tax and tax research (FT&TR) as the chairperson. The other members are Ms Pragya Sahay Saxena, Mr Amitav, ADG-I, Mr Zakir Thomas, Mr. Rajesh Bhoot and Mr Navneet Manohar.

8. Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli On 3-Day Visit To India
Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli began his three-day visit to India. According to the External Affairs Ministry, the visit will provide an opportunity to review wide-ranging cooperative partnership and to progress it further. PM Oli will also visit G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. He will also engage with the business community as well as the Nepalese diaspora in India.

9. Coal Ministry Launches UTTAM App For Quality Monitoring
The Union Minister for Railways and Coal Shri Piyush Goyal launched UTTAM App for Coal Quality Monitoring. UTTAM stands for – Unlocking Transparency by Third Party Assessment of Mined Coal. The Ministry of Coal and Coal India Limited (CIL) developed UTTAM. It aims to provide an App for all citizens and coal consumers to monitor the process of Third Party Sampling of coal across CIL subsidiaries. The salient features of UTTAM APP are Sampling Coverage, Subsidiary wise quality parameters, Complaints pertaining to quality of Coal and Imports of coal.



10. Global Logistics Summit Held In New Delhi
It was organized by the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, along with FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry) and the World Bank Group. The Summit acts as a platform to hold discussions with global experts, academics, government officials and private sector and industry representatives. According to the Union Minister for Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, 56 new airports will be ready for operation in the next few years.

11. Agreement Between NPCIL and EDF of France
Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and Electricite de France (EDF) of France have signed an Industrial Way Forward Agreement for implementation of six nuclear power reactor units at Jaitapur, Maharashtra with a total capacity of about 10,000 MW. The Evolutionary Pressurized Reactors (EPRs) are evolutionary reactors, whose design has evolved from “KONVOI’ and “N4’ reactors which have been in operation in Germany and France respectively for about two decades.

While Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos takes the top spot, Microsoft founder Bill Gates was ranked 2nd. From Asia, Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma (ranked 13th), Tencent co-founder and CEO Pony Ma (17).

1. India’s first Coastal Policing Academy in Gujarat:
  • India’s first of its kind National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP) will be functional from April 2018.
  • The Academy will train police forces in maritime laws, navigation, weapons handling and survival skills for effectively safeguarding country’s shoreline.
2. 1st Indo-French Knowledge Summit in New Delhi:
  • The first edition of the Indo-French Knowledge Summit for university, scientific and technology cooperation was recently held in New Delhi.
  • The two days summit was organized by the French Embassy in India to providecommon platform for increasing student mobility, enlarging R&D collaboration and link campuses to companies by focusing on employability.
3. Floating Lab set up to monitor Loktak Lake:
  • The Institute of Bioresearches and Sustainable Laboratory (IBSD), Imphal has set up a floating laboratory on Loktak lake for monitoring its water quality and find out the measures for improving it.
4. India wins Best Exhibitor Award at ITB-Berlin:
  • India has won the Best Exhibitor Award at ITB-Berlin on the last day.
  • ITB-Berlin World Tourist Meet was started at Berlin, Germany from 7th March to 10thMarch 2018.

5. Modi, Macron jointly inaugurates Solar Power Plant In UP:
  • Prime Minister NarendraModi and French President Emmanuel Macron jointly inaugurated 101 megawatt solar power plant in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The largest solar project in the country has been set up by French company ENGIE.
6. Multilateral Air Force exercise “Samvedna” starts:
  • Multilateral Air Force exercise “Samvedna” will be held from March 12 to 17, 2018.
  • Air Forces of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UAE and Myanmar will participate in the exercise.
7. Russia successfully launches Kinzhal missile:
  • Russia successfully launched high precision aeroballisticKinzhal hypersonic missile from MiG-31 supersonic interceptor jet.
  • The word Kinzhal means double-edged Russian dagger.
  • It can strike without entering enemy’s air defence zone.
8. India B wins Deodhar Trophy 2018:
  • India B team has won the 45th edition of Deodhar Trophy 2018 by defeating Karnataka in the final match by 6 wickets.
  • Deodhar Trophy is named after Prof. DB Deodhar, known as the Grand Old Man of the Indian Cricket.

9. John Sulston passes away:
  • Genome pioneer Sir John Sulston has passed away at the age of 75.
  • He got Nobel Prize in 2002 for doing innovations in cancer research.

1. National Legislators Conference:
  • Prime Minister NarendraModi has inaugurated National Legislators Conferencein New Delhi.
  • The aim of the conference was to bring MPs and MLAs on a single platform so that they could exchange the ideas of development on a single platform.
  • The theme for the conference was- “We For Development”.
2. Supreme Court allows passive euthanasia:
  • A five judge Constitutional Bench of Supreme Court led by CJI DipakMisra has given a ruling that allowed passive euthanasia and right to give advance medical directives or living wills.
  • The apex court has stated that an individual has the right to die with dignity as a part of fundamental right under article 21.
3. Suresh Prabhu appointed as Minister of Civil Aviation:
  • Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu has been given the additional charge as the Minister of Civil Aviation.
  • This has happened after Ashok GajapathiRaju has resigned from the Ministry.
4. ISA, ADB, NDB, AfDB and AIIB Financial Partnership:
  • The International Solar Alliance (ISA), Asian Development Bank (ADB), African Development Bank (AfDB), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), New Development Bank (NDB) and Green Climate Funds (GCF) have signed a Joint Financial Partnership Declaration in New Delhi.
  • The objective of this joint declaration is to enhance their cooperation for supporting renewable energy.
5. Rajasthan Assembly passes bill for death penalty for raping girls below 12:
  • Rajasthan Assembly has passed Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill, 2018 to add provisions providing death sentence to those convicted for raping girls of 12 years of below.
  • With this, Rajasthan has become second state in the country after Madhya Pradesh for making such provisions.



6. 11 countries sign revised TPP trade pact without US:
  • 11 countries belonging to Pacific Rim have formally entered into Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CP TPP of TPP 11) in Santiago, Chile.
  • US withdrew from it earlier.
  • TPP 11 countries are- Austria, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mixico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
  • It will be the world’s third largest trade bloc after European Union (EU) and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
7. Prakriti to be 1st ITBP Woman Combat Officer:
  • 25 years old Prakriti has become the first woman to be directly inducted as a combat officer in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
8. Rs 5cr fine on Airtel Payments Bank over KYC norms:
  • The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a fine of Rs 5 crore on the Airtel Payments Bank for breaching the Know Your Customer (KYC) norms.
  • This happened after RBI found it guilty of opening the accounts of subscribers without their consent.
9. Sanjeev Gupta appointed as UK Skills Ambassador:
  • Prince Charles of Britain has appointed Indian-origin steel businessman Sanjeev Gupta as an official ambassador for the Industrial Cadets Program designed to enhance the manufacturing skills.
  • Mr. Gupta will be involved in a program that will give children and young people direct experience of the industry while still in school or college.
10. 33rd Inception Day of NCRB:
  • The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has celebrated its 33rd Inception Day on 11th March 2018.
  • “Citizen Services” mobile application was released on this occasion.
  • NCRB is a nodal agency under Union Home Ministry that provides authentic source of data on crime.
11. “Wings India 2018” inaugurated in Hyderabad:
  • Wings India 2018, a biennial event on Civil Aviation and Aerospace has been inaugurated in Telangana.
  • The event was jointly organized by the Civil Aviation Ministry, Airports Authority of India and Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
12. Xi Jinping becomes Lifetime President:
  • China’s Parliament has abolished the two-term limit for the President thus allowing Xi Jinping to remain as the country’s Premier for life.
13. Godavari Gaurav Award to Amol Palekar:
  • Veteran actor AmolPalekar has received the Godavari Gaurav Award, instituted by KusumagrajPrathisthan.
14.  “Fulfilling Bapu’s Dreams- PM Modi’s tribute to Gandhiji”:
  • President Ram NathKovind has received the first copy of the book- “Fulfilling Bapu’s Dreams- PM Modi’s tribute to Gandhiji” from SadhguruJaggiVasudev, who released it at Rashtrapati Bhavan.



15.  Australia clinches Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2018:
  • Australia has won the 27th edition of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia by defeating defending champion England by 2-1.
  • Australia has won the tournament for the record 10th time.
