Joint Military Exercises of India 2018

Welcome to Mentor for Bank Exams. Defense
exercises are very important for any nation. It has many purposes like
counter-terrorism, low-intensity conflict operations at Counter-Insurgency, and
improving coordination.
In previous months, there
were many defence exercises performed by our armed forces, some are mentioned
below:
1. Name of Exercise: Varuna
Conducted Between: The Indian and the French navies
Place where held: The coast of Goa
Duration of Exercise: 20th to 24th March, 2018
Purpose: 16th Edition For enhancing interoperability and exchanging best
practices.
2. Name of the Exercise: Samvedna
Conducted between: Indian Air Force,Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and the United
Arab Emirates.
Place where held: The coast of Kerala
Duration of the exercise: March 12 to 17, 2018
Purpose: The main objective of the exercise is to stir up all the stakeholders in
synergising unified Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief efforts.
3. Name of Exercise: Paschim Lehar
Conducted between: Indian Navy, Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Coast Guard
Place where held: India’s western coast
Duration of the exercise: 12th feb to 4th march, 2018
Purpose: The objective of the exercise was to build interoperability between them.
4. Name of Exercise: Lamitye
Conducted between: India and Seychelles
Place where held: Mahe Island in Seychelles archipelago
Duration of Exercies: 25th feb to 4th march 2018
Purpose: 8th Edition. The aim Lamitye 2018 was fighting insurgency, terrorism and
piracy threats. Indian Army was represented by team comprising of 45 personnel,
including four officers, five Junior Commissioned Officers (JCO) and 36 Other
Ranks
5. Name of Exercise: VINBAX
Conducted between: India and Vietnam
Place where held: Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh
Duration of Exercise: January 29 to February 3, 2018
Purpose: To carry out training for Peace Keeping Operations under United Nations
(UN) mandate.
6. Name of Exercise: ‘Vajra Prahar’
Conducted between: India and the US
Place where held: Seattle
Duration of Exercise: Third week of January
Purpose: The aim of the Vajra Prahar exercise is to promote military relations
between two countries by enhancing interoperability and mutual exchange of
tactics
7. Name of Exercise: EKUVERIN
Conducted between: India and the Maldives
Place where held: Belagavi, Karnataka
Duration of Exercise: 15th dec to 28th dec 2017
Purpose: 8th Edition. The aim of the exercise was to conduct military training
between armies of both countries with emphasis on counter insurgency, counter
terrorism operations.
8. Name of Exercise: Ajeya Warrior
Conducted between: India and the UK
Place where held: Bikaner,Rajasthan
Duration of Exercise: 1 December to 14 December 2017
Purpose: The objective of this exercise is to increase mutual cooperation and
coordination between two countries. Both armies will learn and share from each
other's experiences.
9. Name of Exercise: DANX
Conducted between: Andaman and Nicobar
Place where held: Andaman and Nicobar
Duration of Exercise: 20 to 24 November 2017
Purpose: The purpose of the exercise was for adopting planning and precise
execution of Command plans by forces in synergistic manner. It also aimed for
beingfully prepared for any eventuality in future
10. Name of Exercise: IMBAX
Conducted between: India And Myanmar
Place where held: Meghalya, India
Duration of Exercise: November 20-25, 2017
Purpose: The six-day training exercise aimed at building and promoting closer
relations with armies of the neighbouring countries and to train the officers
of Myanmar Army in various United Nations Peacekeeping roles and tasks.
11. Name of Exercise: SAMPRITI
Conducted between: India And Bangladesh
Place where held: Mizoram, India
Duration of Exercise: November 6-18, 2017
Purpose: To build and promote positive relations between armies of two neighbours.
12. Name of Exercise: PRABAL DOSTYK
Conducted between: India And Kazakhstan Army
Place where held: Himachal Pradesh, India
Duration of Exercise: 2 To 15 Nov 2017
Purpose: 2nd Edition. The Joint Exercise Is Aimed At Enhancing The Military Ties
Between The Two Countries.
13. Name of Exercise: INDRA
Conducted between: Indo-Russia Armed Forces
Place where conducted: Sea Of Japan Near Vladivostok, Russia
Duration of Exercise: 19 To 29 Oct 2017
Purpose: First Ever Tri Services Joint Exercise Between Indian And Russian Armed
Forces.
14. Name of Exercise: MITRA SHAKTI
Conducted between: India-Sri Lanka Army
Place where held: Pune, India
Duration of Exercise: 13 To 25 Oct 2017
Purpose: 5th Edition. It Based On Counter Terrorist Operations (CTO) And Infantry
Company From Both Countries
15. Name of Exercise: YUDH ABHYAS
Conducted between: United States And Indian Army
Place where held: Washington, US
Duration of Exercise: 14 To 27 Sep 2017
Purpose: The Training Was Focused On Specialized Drills And Procedures Involved In
Counter Insurgency, Counter Terrorist Operations In An Urban Environment.
16. Name of Exercise: SLINEX
Conducted between: India And Sri-Lanka Navy
Place where Held: Vishakhapatnam, India
Duration of Exercise: 7 To 14 Sep 2017
Purpose: The Seven Days Exercise Aimed To Reinforce Strong Neighborly Ties Between
Both Countries Underscored By Extensive Maritime Interaction And Improved
Understanding.
17. Name of Exercise: SURYA KIRAN-XII
Conducted between: Nepal And Indian Army
Place where held: Saljhandi, Nepal
Duration of Exercise: 3 To 16 Sep 2017
Purpose: Focused On Skills Required Counter- Terrorism And Counter-Terror, Forest
Fighting And Natural Disaster Management Operations.
18. Name of Exercise: MALABAR EXERCISE
Conducted between: India, Japan And United States Navies
Place where held: Bay Of Bengal
Duration of Exercise: 10 To 17 July 2017
Comment: 21st Edition, Trilateral Naval Exercise
19. Name of Exercise: MAITREE
Conducted between: Indian Army And Royal Thailand Army
Place where held: Himanchal Pradesh, India
Duration of Exercise: 3 To 17 July 2017
Comment: Encountered In A Counterterrorism Environment.
20. Name of Exercise: AUSINDEX
Conducted between: Indian Navy And Royal Australian Navy

Purpose: The Exercise Is Aimed At Increasing Inter-Operability And Is In
Consonance With The Growing Cooperation Between The Two Countries.

Conducted between: Indian Navy And Republic Of Singapore Navy
Place where held: South China Sea
Duration of Exercise: 18 To 24 May 2017
Comment: 24th Bilateral Exercise. SIMBEX Stands For “Singapore-India Maritime
Bilateral Exercises“.
22. Name of Exercise: IND-INDO CORPAT
Conducted between: India And Indonesia Navy
Place where held: Port Blair, India
Duration of Exercise: 9 To 25 May 2017
Comment: 29th Edition. The Bilateral Exercise Aims To Enhance Mutual Understanding
And Inter–Operability Between The Two Navies.

Conducted between: India-Mongolian Military Exercise

Comment: 12th Edition. Encompasses Important Aspects Like Convoy Protection, Room
Intervention Drills.
