Answers with Explanations:
1. A) Since the rest of the sentence is plural the correct answer would be 'recent studies on panchayats have shown' and not 'recent study'.
2. B) The sentence is in future perfect continuous tense. It should be 'the world would be watching'. '...the world are to be watching' is incorrect.
3. C) The correct answer would be 'approach to partnering with India' and not 'approach to partner with India'.
'Partnering' is the present participle form of the verb 'Partner'. 'ing' is added to a verb when the action is still continuing. The party to the bill is yet to partner with India and therefore we should use 'partnering'.
4. C) The phrase which indicates how a trivial matter turned into a big, nasty issue contains a vocabulary error.
The word 'inculcated' means to implant an idea or a belief in someone.
However, this particular sentence requires a word which would indicate a climax or culmination i.e to reach the most exciting height.
Hence, the correct answer would be (C).
5. D) The sentence describes how a dull light makes an otherwise enthusiastic atmosphere, shabby.
The word 'deem' means to consider while its homophone 'dim' means dull.
Hence, the phrase would be correct if the word 'deem' is replaced by 'dim'. So, the correct answer is (D).
(6 – 10): The correct sequence is 'DCABFE'.
6. A) The first and second sentences are the introductory sentences which tell about the smart technologies, so following them, the third sentence should be 'From what we eat to how much energy we consume: everything is trackable'.
7. C) Following the sentence 'A', which is the third sentence, the fourth one completes it by mentioning that 'Not least because our gadgets come equipped with clever sensors'.
8. D) The last sentence concludes the paragraph by mentioning that 'But it won’t take long for governments to start exploring self-tracking as a solution to problems that could, and probably should be tackled differently'.
9. C) The sentence 'C' follows the first one as it is in the introductory part only. The second sentence is 'Take the recent obsession with self-tracking'.
10. D) 'D' is clearly the introductory sentence as it does not have a previous link. So, the first sentence after rearrangement should be 'D', i.e. 'Smart technologies are not just disruptive; they can also preserve the status quo. revolutionary in theory, they are often reactionary in practice.
