Baijendra Kumar To Take Charge As National Mineral Development Corporation CMD
- N
Baijendra Kumar, the IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, will take
charge as CMD of the state-run National Mineral Development Corporation
(NMDC).
- Kumar
was additional chief secretary to the Chhattisgarh chief minister and held
the charge of power, commerce & industries.
Parineeti
Chopra, First Indian Woman Ambassador For Tourism Australia
- Bollywood
actress Parineeti Chopra has been appointed as the first Indian woman
ambassador in 'Friends of Australia' (FOA) advocacy panel by Tourism
Australia.
- The
'Friends of Australia' program has been devised as a way of fostering
mutually beneficial, long-term friendship with those that Tourism
Australia regards as unique storytellers. The panel also includes
influential personalities like chef Sanjeev Kapoor and cricket commentator
Harsha Bhogle.

City Wins ASSOCHAM Services Excellence Awards
- India’s
first operational Smart City and IFSC, Gujarat International Finance-Tec
City (GIFT City) won the prestigious Associated Chambers of Commerce and
Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) Services Excellence Award.
- It was
honoured for its contribution to the growth of the International Financial
Services and Technology Hub in India.
- GIFT
City, India’s first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), is
operational with approximately 10 leading banks, 2 international exchanges
(India INX and NSE IFSC), around 100 capital market players and 8
insurance companies having established their operations.

SBI
Life Insurance gets SEBI approval for Rs 8,400 crore IPO
- SBI
Life Insurance received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of
India for an IPO (Initial Public Offering) of up to Rs 8,400 crore ($1.3
billion).
- It
involves 120 million secondary shares or 12 per cent of the insurer's
equity capital. State Bank of India which currently owns 70.1 per cent of
the insurer, will sell 80 million shares and BNP Paribas Cardif, holder of
a 26 per cent stake, will sell 40 million.

Exide
Life and PMC Bank to tie up for savings products
- Exide
Life Insurance announced a partnership with Punjab & Maharashtra
Co-operative Bank (PMC Bank) to offer its protection and savings products
to the latter’s customers.
- It is
a multi-State scheduled urban cooperative bank with 127 branches spread
across Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Goa, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and
Madhya Pradesh. Exide Life Insurance works with around 50 banks.
- Exide
Life Insurance Company Limited commenced its operations in 2001-02.
BSNL
and Coriant Tie up to Chart 5G
- State-owned
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) entered into an agreement with
US-based networking solutions provider Coriant to chart the path to 5G and
Internet of Things (IoT) in India.
- The
MoU was signed between BSNL and Coriant for laying the foundation for
innovation in network architectures and services leveraging 5G, IoT,
Software Defined Networking/Network Functions Virtualization (SDN/NFV) and
mobile edge computing technologies.
- “5G
represents an enormous leap forward in capacity and throughput speeds, and
we are pleased to team with our long-term technology partner Coriant to
tap into these capabilities and explore real-world use cases for
next-generation services and applications.
Ashok
Leyland signed agreement with Rosoboronexport, ELCOM
- Hinduja
Group flagship company Ashok Leyland signed a MoU with Rosoboronexport,
Russia to supply tracked vehicle solutions to the armed forces.
- Rosoboronexport
(ROE) is the only State organisation in Russia for export of the entire
range of military products and technologies.
- Another
MoU is signed with the ELCOM Group which is also emerging as a significant
player in strategic electronics, avionics and tactical communication
globally.
Reliance
General Insurance gets IRDA Nod for IPO
- Reliance
General Insurance received in-principle approval from the Insurance
Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) for its initial
public offering (IPO).
- Currently,
ICICI Prudential Life is listed on the stock exchange, while Max Life
insurance is indirectly listed through holding company Max Financial
Venture.
- It is
a firm which is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Reliance Capital, is expected
to list during the ongoing fiscal.

Saran's Book 'How India Sees the World' Launched
- The
book of Former Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran named “How India Sees the
World: Kautilya to the 21st Century” launched by former Prime Minister Dr.
Manmohan Singh.
- The
book records the crucial meeting of the CCS (Cabinet Committee on
Security) on the eve of India-Pakistan Defence Secretary-level talks in
May 2006.

Journalist Gauri
Lankesh Is No More
- Gauri
Lankesh, a fearless and outspoken journalist was shot dead in Bengaluru
while she was returning to her home. She was known for her secularist
criticism of right-wing and Hindu nationalists, including members of the
BJP
- She
worked for The Times of India and later ran an independent newspaper Gauri
Lankesh Patrike.

UJALA
scheme launched in Melaka, Malaysia
- Energy
Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) under Ministry of Power, Government of
India has launched UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable Lighting for All)
Scheme in the State of Melaka, Malaysia.
- The
Scheme was launched by Chief Minister of Melaka Datuk Seri Utama Ir. Hj.
Idris Bin Hj. Haron.
- Under
this scheme, each household in Melaka will get 10 high-quality 9-watt LED
bulbs.
United
States of America proposes new sanctions against North Korea
- United
States of America (USA) proposed a range of new sanctions against North
Korea, including an oil ban and a freeze on leader Kim Jong-un's assets.
- They
drafted a UN resolution in response to Pyongyang's latest nuclear test
which will be considered by members of the UN Security Council.
- The
draft calls for bans on supplying a range of oil products to North Korea
and purchasing its textile exports.
US to deploy
3,500 more troops to Afghanistan
- Additional
3,500 troops to be deployed by the US in Afghanistan. With this the total
number of soldiers stationed in the war-torn country would be 14,500.
- US
Defence Secretary Jim Mattis has authorised the new deployment which is in
line with President Donald Trump's Afghan policy. This was stated by the
Defence Department official in Washington yesterday.
- The
additional troops deployment come after Mattis, along with the Secretary
of State Rex Tillerson, briefed members of the Congress on the new Afghan
strategy and also about North Korea.
- The
House Foreign Affairs Committee yesterday announced to hold a
Congressional hearing on budget request for Afghanistan and Pakistan on
13th of this month.
India
and Japan to step up Defence Cooperation
- India
and Japan agreed to collaborate closely in defence production, including
on dual-use technologies.
- Defence
Minister Arun Jaitley and his Japanese counterpart Itsunori Onodera signed
the agreement during India-Japan annual defence ministerial dialogue in
Tokyo.
- The
two countries resolved to ramp up overall military engagement under the
bilateral special strategic framework.
- The
countries agreed to commence technical discussions for research
collaboration in the areas of Unmanned Ground Vehicles and Robotics.
- India
planned to buy the US-2 ShinMaywa aircraft from Japan for its navy.

Andhra
Pradesh Signs MoU to Build India's First Hyperloop
- The
Andhra Pradesh government has signed an MoU with the US-based Hyperloop
Transportation Technologies (HTT)to build India's first Hyperloop system.
The planned project is aimed at connecting cities Amaravati and Vijayawada
in Andhra Pradesh, supposedly covering the distance of over 35 km in just
five minutes.
- The AP
Economic Development Board (AP-EDB) and HTT signed the MoU in Amaravati.
Under the MoU, a six-month feasibility study would be conducted from
October.
Naidu
Launches Jalasiriki Harati In Andhra Pradesh
- Chief
Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would lay the foundation stone for the
second phase of Chintalapudi lift irrigation works at Muddulaparva village
in Krishna district, as part of Jalasiriki Harati programme.
- The
state government has been giving priority to irrigation projects as they
would provide water to agricultural lands. The first phase of Chintalapudi
lift irrigation scheme was taken up at a cost of Rs 1,701 crore. And for
the second phase works costing Rs 3,208.80 crore to supply Godavari water
to both West Godavari and Krishna districts.

Aayog Constitutes Expert Task Force on Employment & Exports
- National
Institution for Transforming India Aayog constituted an Expert Task Force
to provide a major thrust to job creation by enhancing India’s exports.
- The
NITI Aayog team is led by Vice Chairman Dr. Rajiv Kumar.
- The
15-member 'Task Force on Employment and Exports' consists of secretaries
from various government departments, industry experts and economists.
- The
task force will give sector-specific recommendations in key employment
sectors for policy interventions and suggest measures to enhance trade in
services with high employment potential.
Indian
Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri laid foundation stone for PPO
- Indian
Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri laid the foundation stone for the
proposed Pension Paying Office (PPO) at Butwal on September 4.
- In his
address highlighting the benefits of upcoming PPO Ambassador Puri said
that this bond with the Ex-Servicemen contributes immensely to warmth and
strength of India-Nepal relationship. Around 6000 Ex-Servicemen, family
pensioners, civil dignitaries of Govt of Nepal and officials of Defence Wing,
Embassy of India were also present on the occasion.
- Pension
Paying Office at Butwal will benefit approximate 45000 Indian Army Gorkha
pensioners and family pensioners in the region, in addition to the already
existing PPOs at Pokhara, Dharan and Kathmandu. It will go a long way in
serving the 126000 Ex-Servicemen and family pensioners in Nepal.

Committee to Identify Key Data Protection Issues
- An
expert committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of former
apex court judge Justice BN Srikrishna to identify key data protection
issues in India and recommend methods to address them.
- The
committee will study various issues and make specific suggestions for
consideration of the government on the principles to be considered for
data protection.
- On the
basis of the Committee’s report, a law regulating data protection will be
passed, if required.
Gujarat
CM Vijay Rupani flags off two week long Ma Narmada Mahotsav Yatra
- Gujarat’s
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani flagged off the ‘Ma Narmada Mahotsav Yatra’
from Surendranagar which will cover 24 districts, 7 cities & over 7200
villages.
- Notably,
the two weeks long ‘Ma Narmada Mahotsav Yatra’ is being celebrated after
the completion of Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada river.
- The
dam finally completed fifty-six years after the foundation stone laid by
the state government on June 17 got permission from the Narmada Control
Authority to close all the 30 gates of the dam, raising its height to
138.68 meters.
- Prime
Minister Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone for the dam in the
year 1961.

India
and US to conduct joint military exercise ‘YUDH ABHYAS 2017’ from 14 to 27th of
this month
- A
joint military training, Exercise Yudh Abhyas-2017 will be conducted at
Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington, the USA from 14 to 27 September 2017
between India and the USA.
- It is
one of the largest joint running military training and defence corporation
endeavors between India and USA.
- This
is the 13th edition of the joint exercise hosted alternately between the
two countries.
SPORTS AFFAIRS
India
to Host Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in 2019
- India
will host the 2019 edition of the Commonwealth (Youth, Junior and Senior)
Weightlifting Championships.
- The
Executive Board of Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation decided to allot
the 2019 edition of the competitions to India.
- The
current edition of the tournament is being held at the Gold Coast,
Australia.
- India's
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (85kg) and K Sanjita Chanu (53kg) bagged a gold
medal.
Duleep Trophy
cricket tournament to begin today in Lucknow
- Duleep
Trophy cricket tournament begins today in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. India
Green will take on the India Red in the opening encounter at the newly
constructed International Cricket stadium.
- The
Duleep Trophy 2017 season will commence at the newly built Ekana
International stadium which will host the opening and the final match
while Kanpur’s Green Park stadium will host the other two games.
- In the
55-year-old history of the Duleep Trophy, Uttar Pradesh hosted the
tournament last season when it was played at the Greater Noida Sports
Complex ground.

Wins Silver at ISSF World Cup
- India’s
Ankur Mittal won his first ISSF World Cup medal by clinching silver in the
double trap event of the edition being held in Moscow.
- Mittal
scored 74 points in the final round while the gold medallist James Willett
from Australia scored 75 points with a new world record.
