Mercantile Bank gets new CEO & MD
- KV
Rama Moorthy took charge as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer
of Tamilnadu Mercantile Bank.
- He
succeeds HS Upendra Kamath.
- His
appointment is for a period of three years.
Rajyavardhan
Singh Rathore appointed as New Sports Minister
- Rajyavardhan
Singh Rathore is appointed as the new Youth Affairs and Sports Minister.
- The
47-year-old Rathore was up until now serving as the Minister of State for
Information & Broadcasting.
- Rathore
served as a commissioned officer in The Grenadiers regiment of the Indian
Army before retiring in 2013 as a colonel.
- He was
awarded the Padma Shri in 2005.
BANKING AFFAIRS
Banking
Operations started by Fincare Small Finance Bank
- Fincare
Small Finance Bank has started its functioning with 25 operational
branches in four states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil
Nadu.
- Earlier
it was known as Disha Microfin Limited.
- RBI
has granted small finance bank license to this bank in May 2017.

DBS
becomes second bank to get in-principle nod to operate as wholly-owned unit
- Singapore-based
bank DBS got final approval to operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary (WOS)
in India after a delay of two years.
- DBS is
the second foreign lender after SBM (Mauritius) to get an in-principle
approval to operate as WOS in India.
- The
DBS Bank has a strong network in the form of Digibank in India with about
1.5 million customers.
- DBS
operates through 12 branches in the country at present with over a million
customers. The bank has already drawn up plans of expanding presence in
the country in a staggered way which is included in the application
submitted.

Trinamool
Leader Sultan Ahmed Is No More
- Former
Union minister and sitting Trinamool Congress MP Sultan Ahmed has died
following a cardiac arrest.
- He was
elected to the Lok Sabha from Uluberia constituency from Trinamool
Congress party.
- He was
the Union Minister of State for Tourism in the UPA government.
Arunachal
Pradesh Health Minister passes away
- Arunachal
Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister Jomde Kena died at a private
hospital in Guwahati after a prolonged illness.
- 52-year-old
Kena, a resident of Gensi village in Lower Siang district was undergoing
treatment at Guwahati for the past one month.

International Day of Charity
- The
United Nations (UN) observes September 5 every year as International
Charity Day. The Day calls for a spirit of strengthened global solidarity,
focused in particular on the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable.
- The
Day also acknowledges the role of the diverse private sector, ranging from
micro-enterprises to cooperatives to multinationals, and that of civil
society organizations and philanthropic organizations in the implementation
of the new Agenda.
National
Teachers Day is observed on September 5th
- In India,
National Teachers Day is celebrated on September 5th to honor Dr.
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Birthday.
- Dr.
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan a great scholar, philosopher, and teacher of
modern India and was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1954.
- He
became the first Vice President of India (from 1952 to 1962) and the
second President of India (from 1962 to 1967).

China
announced $80 Million Funding Plan for BRICS
- China
gave 500 million yuan ($76.4 million) for a BRICS economic and technology
cooperation plan, and another $4 million for projects at the BRICS
countries' New Development Bank stated Chinese President Xi Jinping.
- The
announcement came amid questions over the relevance of BRICS and China's
commitment to its New Development Bank (NDB) in light of the Belt and Road
initiative and the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Prime
Minister Narendra Modi to hold bilateral meet with Chinese Prez Xi to
participate in Dialogue of Emerging Market and developing countries
- Prime Minister
Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping
in Xiamen, China.
- The
countries other than Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (BRICS)
nations participating in the dialogue are Egypt, Guinea, Mexico,
Tajikistan, and Thailand.
- The
9th BRICS Summit held in China made to get named terror groups like
Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad operating from Pakistani soil and a
comprehensive approach against terrorism by BRICS leaders in the Xiamen
declaration.

Union
Health Ministry Launched Two New Contraceptives Antara and Chhaya
- The
Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched two new
contraceptives- an injectable contraceptive MPA under the ‘Antara’ program
and a contraceptive pill ‘Chhaya’ in the public health system to expand
the basket of contraceptive choices for couples.
- These
contraceptives have been launched in 10 states including Delhi,
Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Haryana,
West Bengal, Odisha, and Goa.
Odisha
CM inaugurates the fourth Govt. Medical College in Koraput
- The
Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has inaugurated the fourth
Government Medical College in Koraput.
- The
Medical College has been named after ‘Saheed Laxman Naik’ (freedom fighter
of Koraput).
- The
Admission process for one hundred seats has been completed and classes
began on Monday.
India
despatches First Diesel Consignment to Myanmar
- India
and Myanmar, the first consignment of 30 MT of High-Speed Diesel sent from
India to Myanmar by land route.
- Numaligarh
Refinery Limited (NRL), which has been supplying HSD to Bangladesh,
despatched the first diesel consignment through NH 37 across the Moreh
Custom Check Point on the Indian side and Tamu Custom Check Point on the
Myanmar side.
- It is
to enhance hydrocarbon synergy with neighboring countries as well as
promoting India’s Act East Policy.
- It
already exported 1700 MT of Paraffin wax to Myanmar.
Union
Government forms task force for speedy implementation Namami Gange
- The
Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga
Rejuvenation constituted a task force for speedy implementation of various
ongoing Namami Gange program.
- The
task force is expected to have ministers and officials from water
resources, urban development, drinking water and sanitation and rural
development.
- Namami
Gange programme is a program of Union Government aiming at integrating
various efforts to clean and protect River Ganga.
CIPAM-DIPP
launches social media campaign to promote Geographical Indications
- The
Cell for IPR Promotions & Management (CIPAM) under the aegis of
Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce
and Industry launched a social media campaign to promote Indian
Geographical Indications (GIs) with #LetsTalkIP an ongoing movement
initiated by CIPAM to make more people aware about the importance of
Intellectual Property Rights.
- It is
a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and
possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.
- The
promotion of GIs is in line with the Government’s ‘Make in India’
campaign.
- It’s
an area of strength and optimism for India, whereby the GI tag accorded
protection to a number of hand-made and manufactured products, especially
in the informal sector.
CBDT
signs four Advance Pricing Agreement
- The
Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) entered into four more Advance
Pricing Agreements (APAs), pertaining to sectors like telecom, banking,
manufacturing and education in August 2017.
- The
bilateral APA was for international transactions between an Indian company
and UK-based company.
- The
scheme of CBDT aims to provide certainty to taxpayers in the domain of
transfer pricing by specifying methods of pricing.

Indo-Nepal joint Military exercise
- The
12th edition of India-Nepal joint military exercise- Surya Kiran XII was held
at Nepal Army Battle School (NABS) in Saljhandi, Nepal.
- The 14
day exercise (from 3 to 16 September 2017) focused on skills required
counter-terrorism and counter-terror, forest fighting and natural disaster
management operations.

FIFA U-17 World
Cup song officially launched
- The
official song for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup football tournament was
formally launched by the Local Organising Committee and Sony Pictures
Networks India in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
- The
song, “Kar Ke Dikhla De Goal”, is written by lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya
and is composed by Pritam.
World
Chess Cup: Viswanathan Anand wins, Harikrishna suffered defeat
- Five-time
world champion Viswanathan Anand started off with a clinical victory over
Li Tian Yeoh of Malaysia in the first round of the first game of World
Chess Cup in Tbilisi.
- The
second highest rated Indian, P Harikrishna, however suffered a defeat at
the hands of Yuri Vidal Gonzales of Cuba. Harikrishan now needs to win the
return match and then win the tie-breaker as well to remain in this
128-player knockout event.
Amritpal
Singh: first Indian signed by Australian Basketball team
- Former
Indian basketball team captain Amritpal Singh will be seen shooting and
guarding the Sydney King’s rim in Australia’s National Basketball League.
- He is
the first Indian-born player to take to the court in Australia’s National
League.
- Amrit,
has been signed by the Australian club as a back-up centre, and Sydney
Kings managing director.
Konsam
Ormila Devi won Gold at Commonwealth Youth Weightlifting Championship
- India’s
Konsam Ormila Devi won a gold medal in 44kg weight category on the opening
day of the Commonwealth Youth (boys & girls) weightlifting
championships held at Gold Coast, Australia.
- She
lifted 57kg in snatch and 76kg in clean and jerk for an overall effort of
133kg.
