APPOINTMENTS
Rajeev Shukla to head BCCI Special Committee
  • Rajeev Shukla, a former vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will head a newly-formed seven-member Special Committee, as decided at Special General Meeting (SGM), to suggest a way forward for implementing the administrative overhaul prescribed in the Supreme Court order on July 18 last year.
  • Besides Shukla and BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary, who will be the convener of the meeting, the committee will include former India captain Sourav Ganguly (Bengal), T.C. Mathew (Kerala), Naba Bhattacharjee (Meghalaya), Jay Shah (Gujarat) and BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry.
  • The formation of the committee is, in a way, a first step by the BCCI for almost a year since the Supreme Court pronounced the judgement. However, the composition was far from being unanimous.
  • A section within the Board pressed hard for committee to be chaired by BCCI acting president C.K. Khanna.

  • Kaushik Basu appointed as President of International Economic Association (IEA).
  • He will serve a three-year term as the President.
  • He also served as senior vice-president and chief economist at the World Bank from 2012 to 2016.
  • The International Economic Association (IEA) is one of the key organisations of professional economists and has been significant in determining global economic policy and Research.

Former Indian hockey captain Dhanraj Pillay to get Bharat Gaurav
  • Former India hockey captain Dhanraj Pillay honored with East Bengal football club’s highest honor that is Bharat Gaurav.
  • The East Bengal club chosen former India footballers Syed Nayeemuddin and Subhas Bhowmick for the Lifetime Achievement Awards at the function.
  • India’s hockey team won the Asian Games in 2002 under Pillay’s captaincy.
  • He also received the Player of the Tournament Award in the Champions Trophy held in Germany.

Apple acquires Senso Motoric Instruments Eye-Tracking Company
  • Apple acquired Senso Motoric Instruments (SMI) according to a report from MacRumors.
  • It is a company specialized in eye-tracking technology.
  • SMI has also offered eye-trackers for desktop applications as well as measurement-only head-worn devices for data collection and analysis.
Group Insurance cover for Amarnath Pilgrims raised to Rs 3 lakh
  • Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) announced the Group Insurance cover for the pilgrims and service providers from existing Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.
  • SASB manages the annual yatra to the 3,880-metre high holy cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir, Himalayas.
  • He has announced the enhanced group insurance while interacting with ‘ponywalas’ and ‘pithoowalas’ (pony owners and porters) during a visit to various camps en route the holy cave shrine.
European Union Fined Google with 2.42 Billion Euros
  • The European Union’s competition watchdog fined Google a record 2.42 Billion Euro for breaching the anti-trust rules by illegally favoring its shopping service.
  • The fine of 2.42 Billion Euro is the biggest fine for a single company in an EU antitrust case.

Small Business – Big Impact: ITC celebrated first ever International MSME Day on June 27
  • The International Trade Centre (ITC) celebrated the first International MSME Day on June 27, 2017.
  • ITC is the joint agency of the UN and the WTO supporting SMEs in developing countries and transition economies for sustainable and inclusive trade
  • June 27, after being marked as the MSME Day, is being celebrated globally to recognise the importance of the role that the sector plays in generating employment and in a country’s economy.
  • ITC said more than 90% of world’s businesses are micro, small and medium enterprises. There are 500 million MSMEs in the world and they represent 90 percent of all goods exporters.

India and Netherlands sign 3 Agreements
  • India and Netherlands signed 3 agreements between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte in Hague the Netherlands.
  • The three Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is
    • MOU on Cultural Cooperation.
    • MOU on Water Cooperation
    • Agreement on Amending Social Security Arrangement.
  • Netherlands is host to one of the largest population of people of Indian origin in Europe. It is home to about 220,000 Indian and Suriname Hindustani Diaspora.
United States designates Hizbul chief Syed Salahuddin as Global terrorist
  • The United States of America (USA) designated Pakistan-based Hizb-ul-Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.
  • They designated Mohammad Yusuf Shah, also known as (AKA) Syed Salahuddin as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) under Section 1(b) of Executive Order (E.O.).
  • President Donald Trump decided the new administration’s commitment for Pakistan-sponsored terror.
US Lists China Among Worst Human Trafficking Offenders
  • President Donald Trump's administration hit China Tuesday over its rights record, listing the country alongside Sudan and North Korea on a list of the world's worst human trafficking offenders.
  • The State Department downgraded China in its annual "Trafficking in Persons Report," saying Beijing is doing little to combat the phenomenon or protect its victims.
  • The agency's 2017 report on human trafficking upgraded the statuses of Myanmar, Afghanistan, Malaysia and Qatar, while leaving those of Russia, Cuba and Thailand unchanged.
  • The department dropped Iraq and Myanmar from a list of countries that recruit and use child soldiers, a change from 2016.

  • The World’s first ATM (Automated Teller Machine) celebrated its 50th anniversary.
  • In the past five decades, ATM machines made a transformation in the way people obtained and used cash.
  • The World’s most important ATM machine is present at Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway.
  • The most Southerly ATM is situated at the McMurdo station of the South Pole.

Union Minister launched 'Digital MSME Scheme', exchanged MoUs with SAP India, Intel and HMT
  • Union Minister Mr. Kalraj Mishra launched 'Digital MSME Scheme', exchanged Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SAP India, Intel, and HMT.
  • The MSME has a total budget of Rs. 85.705 crores including Government of India’s contribution of Rs. 58.105 crore during 2017- 18 to 2019-20.
  • International Trade Centre (ITC) has celebrated the first International MSME Day with the theme of MSME is‘Small business – big impact’.”
Uttar Pradesh Government signs agreement with Asian Development Bank for strengthening of roads
  • Uttar Pradesh Government signed an agreement with Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a loan of 1950 crore rupees for the strengthening of roads in the different district.
  • As per the agreement, ADB will provide the loan amount for Uttar Pradesh Main District Roads Development Project of 2782 crore rupees cost.
  • The project is scheduled to be completed by the year of 2024 and it will provide the loan for the period of 25 years on the interest rate of 2 percent.

Indian Army gets Modern Bullet Proof Helmets
  • The Indian Army finally received its first batch of bullet-proof helmets.
  • The helmets were manufactured by Kanpur-based MKU Industries at the cost of Rs 180 crore.
  • The new bulletproof helmets are capable of withstanding the impact of 9mm fired shots from a short range.
  • The helmets match global standards of equipment for armed forces.
Russian Navy test-fires submarine-launched missile
  • The Russian military has successfully test-fired a submarine-launched Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (IBM).
  • The Yuri Dolgoruky is the first in a series of Borei-class submarines carrying the Bulava.
  • The Bulava is commissioned by the Russian Navy after a long cycle of development, carries 6 nuclear warheads and has a range of up to 9,300 kilometers (about 5,770 miles).

Indian men's and women's throwball teams create history
  • The Indian men's and women's throwball teams scripted history by bagging a gold medal each in the World Games, held at Kathmandu, Nepal.
  • The women's team defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 15-13, 15-12 in a nail-biting final to clinch the title, while the men posted a 15-13, 15-12 win over Bangladesh in their final match to finish at the top of the podium.
  • The World Games, organised by the International Sports Council (Canada), saw participation from 11 countries, competing in 42 different categories.
ISSF Junior World Championship - India finish second in Junior Shooting World Championship
  • The Indian shooting squad finished a creditable second at the International Shooting Sports Federation, Junior World Championship with three gold, two silver and three bronze medals in Suhl, Germany.
  • India picked up a Gold and silver in the team and individual sections of the 25m pistol junior men’s event.
  • Anish Bhanwala won three medals one of each colour.
  • China topped the event with 19 medals, including eight gold’s.

  • Roger Federer won the ninth Halle Open title recently.
  • He defeated Alexander Zverev from Germany.
  • He won the Cup for the first time in his career, one tournament nine times.
