APPOINTMENTS
SEBI appoints Vikram Limaye for the post of NSE Chief
  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) cleared the appointment of Vikram Limaye as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE).
  • He replaced by Chitra Ramakrishna who quit the exchange in December 2016.
  • Mr. Limaye was also named a member of a four-member panel by the Supreme Court to run the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the apex cricket management body in the country.
Paytm vice-president Amit Sinha appointed as Chief Operating Officer (COO)
  • Amit Sinha, the Vice President of Business and Human Resources at Paytm's Parent Company One97 Communications appointed as the Chief Operating Officer ofPaytm Mall.
  • He will be responsible for overall operations of Paytm Mall and expand the team to ensure customers have access to the widest assortment of products.
  • Paytm recently demerged its e-commerce business into a separate entity called Paytm E-Commerce Private Limited which runs Paytm Mall.

Dr Kate receives ‘2017 Sickle Cell Advocate of the Year’ Award
  • Dr Sudam Kate received the prestigious “2017 Sickle Cell Advocate of the Year” award.
  • The award is presented to the doctor for his “extraordinary work” in sickle cell screening and research.
  • He is first Indian to receive this International award.
  • He has screened more than two lakh people for sickle cell and identified over 3,000 patients in the tribal community from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
  • The prize comprises $500 dollars and an appreciation certificate.
Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry conducted 22ND APEDA Annual Award Function
  • Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is an apex body of the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, to promote the export of agricultural commodities and processed food products.
  • This includes 2 Diamond Trophies, 33 Gold, 29 Silver and Bronze 18 for the both the years  2014-15 and 2015-16.
  • “Golden Trophy” for both the years include Ramesh Flowers (P) Ltd. (for Floriculture), Nandyala Satyanarayana (for Fresh Vegetables), Namdhari Seeds Private Limited (for Fruits & Vegetable Seeds), Al-Hamd Agro Food Products Pvt. Ltd. Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee selected for Legion of Honour Award
  • Bengali actor, Soumitra Chatterjee conferred with the France's highest civilian honor, the Legion of Honour.
  • The award will be presented by the Ambassador of France to India Alexandre Ziegler.
  • After 30 years of Satyajit Ray got the same honor by the French President Francois Mitterrand in 1987.

India, Mauritius sign MoU to institutionalize cooperation between Parliament
  • India and Mauritius signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to institutionalize cooperation between Parliaments of the two countries.
  • The MoU was signed by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Speaker of National Assembly of Mauritius Santi Bai Hanoomanjee in Port Louis.
  • The relationship between the two countries provides a platform for the sustained growth of friendship and partnership.
Union Government launches Tele Law to provide legal support in rural areas via video conferencing
  • The Government of India launched ‘Tele Law’ service to provide legal support for the people living in rural areas through video conferencing.
  • The Ministry of Law and Justice partnered with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to provide legal services through its Common Service Centres (CSC) at the panchayat level, spread across the country.
  • Under the scheme, the Tele-Law portal will be available across the CSC network connecting the citizens to legal service providers. In the first phase, the Tele-Law scheme will be tested as a pilot across 1000 CSCs in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
  • The service was launched by Union Minister for Information Technology (IT) Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Kolkata to get India's First Underwater Metro Rail Link Service
  • Kolkata city will set to have an underwater Metro Rail Service under the river Hoogly.
  • It is the India's first underwater transportation tunnel of India.
  • The project connects Howrah to the west and Salt Lake to the east. The stretch of 16.6 km will have 12 stations, six of which will be under the ground, while the remaining six stations will be on elevated tracks.
  • The cost of the project will be around 60 crores.
  • The project is expected to be completed by December 2019.
GST council to revise rates for 66 items
  • India's most comprehensive indirect tax reform the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is effective from July 1.
  • The council revised rates on 66 items such as pickles, sauces, fruit preserves, insulin, cashew nuts, insulin, school bags, coloring books, notebooks, printers, cutlery, agar batties and cinema tickets, following representations from industry.
  • GST Council is Headed by Finance Minister of India Mr. Arun Jaitley.

US based aviation company Cirrus Aircraft launched the world's smallest and most affordable private jet
  • United States-based aviation company Cirrus Aircraftlaunched the world's smallest and most affordable private jet called 'Vision Jet' for 12.62 crores.
  • It has a maximum operating altitude of 28,000 feet and takes off from just 620 meters of runway.
  • Cirrus has already accepted 600 orders of the Vision Jet, which accounts for over $1 billion in revenue. They will produce and deliver the jets over the next several years.

Rafael Nadal wins 10th French Open title
  • Spain's Rafael Nadal won the 10th French men's Tennis Open title.
  • He defeated Stan Wawrinka in the Paris final.
  • He becomes the first person to win a Grand Slam tournament 10 times.
  • Australia's Margaret Court won a single Grand Slam tournament, with 11 Australian Open wins between 1960 and 1973.
Jelena Ostapenko wins French Open Women’s Title
  • Jelena Ostapenko won her first Grand Slam title in the women’s final of the French Open 2017.
  • She defeated Simona Halep Romanian professional tennis player to win the title.
  • The French Open is a major tennis tournament held over two weeks between late May and early June at the Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France.
England won the FIFA U - 20 World Cup
  • England won the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) under-20 World Cup final at Suwon World Cup Stadium.
  • They defeated Venezuela team.
  • The FIFA U- 20 is the world championship of Football for male players under the age of 20.
