Government appoints Rajesh Shah as NIFT Chairperson
- The Union Government (Ministry
of Textiles) appointed Shri Rajesh V. Shah as Chairperson on the Board of
Governors of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
- He has replaced Shri Chetan
Chauhan as per the provisions of the National Institute of Fashion
Technology Act, 2006.
Donald
Trump appoints Indian-American as US Ambassador to Peru
- Donald Trump appointed
Indian-American Krishna R as the new United States Ambassador to Peru.
- He is serving as Charge of
Affairs of the United States Embassy in Madrid, Spain.
- During his three decades of
State, Department service he has specialised in economic issues and
developed extensive policy experience in the Andean region of South
America.

Uttarkhand
gets award of excellence at International Meet
- Uttarkhand state conferred the
award of excellence at the 2nd Global Skill Development Summit held in
Paris.
- It has been awarded for
innovations and extensive use of IT for skill developments the state’s
youth.
- Uttarakhand Skill Development
Committee was also running International language training programmes for
the state’s youth to strengthen the prospects of their employability by
foreign companies.

becomes the first country to contribute one lakh US dollars to UN fund
- India has become the first
country to contribute one lakh US Dollars to a UN fund to help developing
countries actively participate in the discussion of tax issues.
- The UN Trust Fund for
International Cooperation in Tax Matters (the UN Tax Fund) has received
its first financial voluntary contribution from India.
UNESCO
names Sharjah as World Book Capital 2019
- The United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) named Sharjah as World Book
Captial.
- Sharjah is the 19th city to
become World Book Capital.
- The Sharjah is the first in the
Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and third in the Arab world and the Middle
East received this recognition.
China
launched its Biggest Naval Destroyer
- China launched its most powerful
naval destroyer, the Type 055, at the Shanghai port.
- It is one among the largest
warships in the world.
- The Type 055 vessels will weigh
more than 12,000 tonnes and are larger more powerful than India’s latest
Project- 15B “Visakhapatnam” class destroyers.

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi
inaugurated the Centenary Celebrations of Sabarmati Ashram.
- It is on a two-day visit to his
home state Gujarat and is scheduled to attend programmes in Ahmedabad,
Rajkot, Modasa and Gandhinagar.
- He will inaugurate two water
supply projects worth Rs 552 crore for the region.
- He will attend a programme to
dedicate water supply schemes based on Vatrak, Mazum and Meswo Dams at
Modasa in Aravalli district in north Gujarat.

- The Joint Trade Committee plays
a key role related to the enhancement of the bilateral economic
partnership between the two countries.
- Myanmar shares a long land
border of over 1600 Kms with India as well as a maritime boundary in the
Bay of Bengal.

Pricing Authority (NPPA) announces Provisional ceiling prices of 761
medicines including anti-cancer, HIV and also some antibiotics.
- According to NPPA Chairman
Bhupendra Singh, the actual increase or decrease in drug prices post GST
is expected to be in the range of 2-3% depending on states.
Election
Commission joins hands with Facebook to launch First Time Nationwide “Voter
Registration Reminder”
- The Election Commission of India
has joined hands with Facebook to launch nationwide voter registration
reminder aimed at reminding eligible Indian voters to register themselves
on the electoral rolls.
- As a part of the initiative,
Facebook will activate a unique ‘Register Now’ button reminding all the
eligible Indian users to enrol themselves as voters.
- The remainder will be made
available for four days beginning July 1.
- Election Commission of India is
a permanent body entrusted for the conduct of free and fair elections. An
independent Election Commission has been provided for in Article 324 of
the Constitution of India.
Union govt.
launches new bidding mechanism for mega oil and gas auctions
- The Union Govt. has launched two
key interventions, oil and gas bidding mechanism named Open Acreage
Licensing Process (OALP) and the National Data Repository (NDR) for the
first major oil field auctions.
- Now, the auctions will be held
under a new ‘Hydrocarbon Exploration Licensing Policy’ (HELP).
- The new bidding mechanism will
allow interested firms to bid for blocks of their choice at any time of
the year with the help of National Data Repository.
Odisha to
become First State in the Country to Open a Blood Bank for Cattle
- Odisha is the first state in the
Country to open a Blood Bank for cattle.
- The proposal has received the
approval from the National Agriculture Development Programme (NADP).
- The blood bank for cattle would
be set up on the premises of the Odisha University of Agriculture and
Technology (OUAT) at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.25 crore.

create brightest light ever produced on Earth
- The Scientists have created the
brightest light ever produced on the Earth, shining a billion times
stronger than the surface of the Sun.
- Researchers discovered that it
could be used as a new type of X-ray, capable of taking higher resolution
images.
- These lights are used for the
safety purposes.
India's
communication satellite GSAT-17 successfully launched
- India's communication satellite
‘GSAT-17’ has been successfully launched from Kourou in French Guiana.
- This month this was the third
satellite launched by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation).
- GSAT-17 with a lift-off mass of
about 3,477 kg carries payloads in Extended C-band, Normal C-band, and
S-band to provide various communication services.
- The Satellite carries equipment
for meteorological data relay and satellite-based search and rescue
services being provided by earlier INSAT satellites.
- The satellite will provide the
continuity in services of aging two satellites and widen the country's
horizon to mobile satellite services as well as to Antarctica areas.

Committee to oversee Lodha Panel Reforms
- The Board of Control for Cricket
in India (BCCI) announced the formation of a special seven-member
committee to identify the ‘few critical points’ for the general body of
the cricket board to consider before they are submitted to the Supreme
Court.
- The seven-member committee has
Rajeev Shukla, Sourav Ganguly, Naba Bhattacharjee, TC Mathew, Jay Shah,
Amitabh Choudhary and Anirudh Chaudhary.
- This committee will be
responsible for identifying those points that are difficult to be
implemented, in regards to the Justice RM Lodha Committee reforms.
